Massive advertising for a free product – MSN Search

There’s a certain irony that Microsoft has to use a great deal of non-Internet marketing to make people aware that it now has a new Search Engine. That came to my attention from an item at Threadwatch.org entitled, “MSN’s Ad Campaign to Hit 90% of US Households 40x in 8wks”. Indeed using any paid advertising to get you to use a free search engine has a certain irony too.

The target here, of course, is Google since Yahoo! seems to have lost some steam lately. It’s a resounding confirmation of the value of what Google has created.

Personally, I cannot wait until Microsoft actually acquires Yahoo – making it a very attractive alternate to using google for search exclusively.

Is interesting that after so long, it seems that MSN Search Engine, still can’t compete seriously vs Google. So… so much money and so little results.
